So many businesses are on Facebook. When there's over one billion active users, it's an obvious move to make sure you're on there so you can attract new customers and engage with your current ones. However, Facebook is a busy place and it's hard to be heard (especially by the right people). So, here's how to make your business stand out on Facebook, and what's great is most of these tips are free!

Complete your account information

You'd be surprised how many businesses forget to do this simple task. Some people think all they need to do is activate an account and add a picture - job sorted. However, that's only half the job. You need to complete all your account information.

Nice story!

Make sure to add all the relevant information about your business:

  • Email
  • Phone number
  • Website
  • Working hours
  • Location
  • Company description - explain what services you provide.

Completing your account information shares important details to people who look at your page and it also inspires trust. A completed profile shows your business page is being maintained and managed. This helps you stand out from businesses who've created a Facebook page because it was on their to-do list and don't really use it.

Profile and Cover Images

Creating good profile and cover images doesn't have to be expensive. To be honest, it can be free if you've got images available of your business.

What's most important is to make sure your images are the correct size. Seeing blurred profile images can act as a deterrent for some people who see your Facebook page.

Be sociable

Facebook is a place for people to be social. Hence why it's called social media.

By being sociable with other businesses and people, you can help make your business stand out. Your conversations can invite others to get involved in discussions and inform people about your business.

I know it can be nerve-racking at first but once you've found your company's voice, you have the opportunity to communicate with your target audience.

Share helpful information

One of the best ways to make your business stand out on Facebook is to be helpful.

As an inbound marketing company, we've seen how businesses can attract visitors just by being helpful. While it may be your natural instinct to use your business' page to promote your business, use it instead to share helpful information like your blogs, free guides, etc.

Even if a person does not decide to become a customer after reading your free guide, they will remember how helpful you were and more likely return.

Be active & reply to questions

Quite a lot of customers (and potential customers) are contacting businesses via social media instead of via their website.

To help your business stand out on Facebook, it's important you reply to any messages. On your business page it reveals how long it takes you to respond to people.

If your competitors are using Facebook, it's possible that people will contact them if it takes you a week to reply to a message, compared to your competitor who responds within an hour.

Ask customers to write reviews

After your customer has bought a product (or service) send them an email a couple of days later, asking them (kindly) to leave a review on Facebook. Make sure you leave a link to your profile so the customer just has to click to reach your page.

If you're struggling to get people to leave reviews, you could create a competition, like - in one month a reviewer (picked at random) will win a prize. This will encourage people to spend a few minutes to complete a review.

Paid Adverts

You'll have to pay for Facebook Ads but we've found they can be very beneficial for some businesses.

The benefits of advertising on Facebook:

  • Connect with your target market
  • Demographic targeting
  • Remarketing opportunities
  • They're affordable

Once you mention Facebook advertising, some people think it's going to be costly and refrain from the idea. One of the best features of Facebook ads is, you have lots of control when it comes to how much you want to spend so there's no dangers of overspending.

To get the best out of advertising on Facebook, you need to optimise your adverts to increase the chances of them being seen by the right people and to get the best out of your budget.

At Digital 22, we can do social media advertising as part of the inbound marketing packages we provide.
