The Manchester HUG November 2016 Recap

2 mins read

Last week, we hosted the final Manchester HubSpot User Group event, also known as the Manchester HUG, of 2016. We've enjoyed hosting, meeting and hearing from many of the HubSpot users in our area and it was great to see another group in attendance. Here's a review of what was covered in the presentations and discussion.

The Manchester HUG: Who, Where, When & What

Who

The Manchester HUG is a networking and educational event for all HubSpot users in the North West of England and is facilitated and hosted by the team here at Digital 22. It's lead by Rikki Lear, Digital 22 director, and can be attended by anyone already or looking into using HubSpot.

On the night, Rikki was the host, Andrew conducted a talk about Inbound16 and HubSpot, Danielle greeted and welcomed all attendees and I was on social media duty.

All the events are free to attend.

Where

We hosted the event at the rather ace Ziferblat in Manchester, in the heart of the Northern Quarter.

When

The latest HUG took place last week (22nd November), but generally takes place once every quarter.

What

At the latest event, speakers came from Digital 22, Digital Media Stream (a HubSpot agency based at Media City, Salford) and Response Tap (a call tracking software developer). Here's a run down of what they spoke about and a slideshare of the presentations...

Introduction by Digital 22: Inbound16 Summary & HubSpot Feature Updates

Andrew kicked off proceedings with a great presentation about his, Rikki and Mark's findings from Inbound16 in Boston, which they attended a couple of weeks ago. This is the biggest inbound marketing conference in the world and attracts thousands upon thousands of delegates. It's a place where industry leaders share studies, projections and thoughts. And leading developers - like HubSpot, obviously - annound their latest updates and developments.

Presentation by Digital Media Stream: Content Marketing for Lead Generation

Speaking next was Simon from Digital Media Stream. He went through how to plan, execute and analyse an effective content marketing campaign in HubSpot. This was particular useful for any new-to-inbound attendees, but also had some nuggets of analysis in for more advanced users too.

It was great to have another agency speaking and buying into the idea that the inbound movement is still relatively new, compared to other forms of marketing, so there's a need to work together and pool our knowledge. Of course, this ultimately benefits our clients.

Presentation by Response Tap: Introduction To Response Tap

The importance of call tracking was discussed in this presentation. It was highlighted how crucial and useful it is for inbound marketers to be able to track an inward sales call back to the blog, email, social ad or homepage visit which initially started the conversion process. Response Tap's software uses the features of HubSpot to do just this.

Below the Slideshare is a video which showed what was being explained in action.

Final Discussion by the whole group: An Open Discussion On Blogging

Following the feedback from earlier events, we decided to bring the evening to a close with an in depth, open floor discussion. This time, the topic being discussed was blogging.

We covered everything from post frequency and length, to conversion rates and attracting the right traffic. Everyone in the room contributed at some point and there was plenty of range in approach - which goes to show how important it is to find your target persona and give them what they want in their content, not just what somebody else in another industry is doing.

So, What's Next For The Manchester HUG In 2017?

We will continue to host the Manchester HUG, next year, and we will look to attract more great speakers for even more worthwhile events. Thanks for everyone who attended last week and over the course of the year.
