Where is the Ribble Valley and what can you do here?

2 mins read

https://www.holmesmillAt the heart of Lancashire sits the Ribble Valley, known for its scenic views and adventurous outdoor activities. Within the Ribble Valley’s countryside, you’ll find plenty of picturesque villages such as Hurst Green and Whalley along with plenty of famous hospitality.

It also offers a host of gastro-pubs and  five-star restaurants that serve exceptional food by some of the country's most renowned chefs. Ever heard of the Michelin star restaurant, Northcote? According to some of the team who have been lucky enough to go, the food is out of this world.

Alongside the eateries, the Ribble Valley is home to Britain’s longest bar, the Holmes Mill Beer Hall in Clitheroe, which comes in at a massive 105ft 4”. The Beer Hall is home to 42 hand pulls and hosts at least 24 individual cask beers at any one time.

We’re located just next to this spectacular Beer Hall, so we’re no strangers to their homemade ales and lagers. If wine and gin is your thing, then you’re also spoilt for choice. The cocktail bars in Clitheroe are sophisticated and perfect for a night out.

No matter the time of the year, the Ribble Valley always has something happening. There’s the Clitheroe Food Festival which serves as a food and drinks takeover for local producers to showcase their homegrown specialities.

Ale fanatics can partake in a pint or six at Hurst Green’s Middle Earth Beer Festival, there’s also the Shire Lane in Hurst Green and Buckleberry Ferry inspired by Hacking Hall on the River Ribble.

If you’re big into music, the Ribble Valley has plenty to offer. There’s the Beatherder Festival which has grown from a tiny, local event into a colossal creation of 16 music areas, 14 bars, 40+ stalls and fairgrounds bringing in an audience from across the country.

If the rave scene isn’t for you, then there’s the Ribble Valley Jazz & Blues festival, offering you the chance to experience a heartwarming range of music from a variety of talented artists.

If you’re after something more family-oriented, you’ll want to visit the Cloudspotting Festival which is perfect for families to enjoy live music, activities and nature without the overcrowding of large festivals.

Got a pooch at home? Why not complete the Tolkien Trail located at Hurst Green for that perfect Sunday morning? This 5.5 mile walk will give you the chance to view all the local scenery and have a break from reality.

For the adrenaline chasers out there, be sure to take a trip to the UK’s number one scream park, Scare Kingdom, at Halloween. Featuring award-winning scare mazes and attractions... you’ll definitely leave with a few haunting memories.

It’s no wonder the Ribble Valley is recognised as one of the best places to live in the UK and according to the Queen’s biographer, she and Prince Philip would love to retire to the area. Although I’m not sure they’d renovate the Clitheroe Castle, even for old Queenie.
